WELCOME TO 2024/25 WECP REGISTRATION!

We have carefully prepared the following guide to provide a clear understanding of responsibilities when becoming a member of our CO-OP.

PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO READ IT Closely.

West edmonds co-op & FLED structure

West Edmonds Cooperative Preschool is affiliated with the Family Life Education Department (FLED) at Edmonds College. Co-op members are required to enroll as students at Edmonds College in a for-credit class through the Family Life Education Department. Edmonds College provides on-site College Instructors. Our Instructors come with a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the areas of early childhood development and parenting education.

Think of being a part of the co-op as being in a class that focuses on early childhood development and parenting education. The time spent working in the class room with our teachers and preschoolers is considered “lab” credits while the member meetings are the “lecture” portion of the class.

In the name "Cooperative," there is an implied spirit of mutual helpfulness and community building. The following guidelines are prepared to help the Cooperative operate effectively and efficiently. Please read and agree to the following before registering for our preschool. Our goal is to provide a very clear representation of expectations for all potential members. If you have any questions feel free to reach out to our registrar: wecpregistrar00@gmail.com

PARENT INVOLVEMENT

—very important, please read closely-

Your responsibility as part of the preschool is to support the teacher on the days you work in the classroom by helping with projects, materials, organization and cleaning.  Most importantly, you engage in play and activities with the students at their eye level. You provide encouragement and support to the children to try new activities and help the children negotiate and cooperate. The teacher directs the members in understanding their role in the classroom, briefly explaining the projects for the day, and their expectations for the children. Members also help one another with their roles as Teacher Assistants. All of the following Member Participation Requirements must be met to be a member in good standing.

CLASSROOM WORKDAY

  • As previously stated, the classroom work day is an important part of your role in the co-op preschool structure. As a member you are an enrolled student at Edmonds College and the time spent working at the preschool accounts for the required “lab” credits. It is your responsibility to work in the classroom, once a week, per enrolled preschooler.

    MEMBER MEETING AND ORIENTATION ATTENDANCE

  • As a member you are a student at Edmonds College and the monthly member meetings accounts for the required “lecture” credits.

  • The enrolled caregiver is REQUIRED to attend a monthly Member Meeting held at Edmonds College. Member Meetings are held at 6:30pm-8:30pm on the third Wednesday of each month, September through May. Attendance is also required at a one-time Orientation meeting at the beginning of the year.

  • Member meetings are in two parts: The first is the business portion of the meeting is a review of financials and preschool. The second is the parent education portion of the meeting which is the considered the “lecture” part of your Edmonds College credit requirement and typically includes an activity.

  • Member Meeting participation is imperative to insure the success of the preschool and so that we, as a community, can meet the needs of our children. ATTENDANCE AT THIS MEETING IS REQUIRED. Any missed portion of a meeting counts as an entire missed meeting. Attendance forms for the business and education portions of the meeting are provided for acknowledgment of attendance.

    CLASS ARRIVAL AND PICK-UP

We are not a “drop off” type of facility. We cannot accommodate early drop off or late pick up. You are expected to be on time to class. Class cannot begin until all working caregivers are present. For pick-up, two working grown-ups will be designated to stay until all children have been picked up. Late pick ups are disruptive to the flow of class transition as well as to other members.

If this conflicts with your schedule or life style you might consider a

different avenue of preschool with a different structure.
